Wireless microphones are microphones used in the same way as the corded microphones except the wireless microphones don’t have the wires connecting it to anything. Wireless microphones use transmitters to send the radio signals to the receivers, which are usually located within the wireless microphone itself. Some come with separate microphone receivers to receive the radio signals from the transmitter, but the sensor from the microphone needs to be in line with the receiver.

Here are some of the terms related to wireless microphones and their meanings.

Wireless microphone system- All the components used in order to make the wireless microphone work. Wireless microphone systems usually consist of a wireless microphone, transmitter and a receiver.

Waterproof wireless microphone- A wireless microphone built to withstand any damage from water. Ideal for aerobics instructors communicating with their class participants.

Wireless stereo microphone- A wireless microphone used through a stereo system.

Camcorder wireless microphones- wireless mics used in conjunction with camcorders to pick up high quality sound, such as the camcorder uhf wireless microphones. The wireless microphones used for the hdd camcorders have the highest quality sound.

Wireless headset mic system- Wireless mic used within a wireless headset system. The wireless microphone headsets allow usage to be hands free.

There are many more wireless microphone terms, but these were just a few common ones. The wireless microphones come in many different brands and types but the most popular brand is the shure. The Shure wireless microphones are known to be mic of choice in almost every application. The shure wireless microphone has been around awhile so it’s the first brand users go to for their wireless microphone needs.

The advantages of wireless microphones are can be used at a distance, without being limited to a short cord. You have more free movement without having to worry about tripping on or damaging the cords that connect other microphones to their units.

Some of the disadvantages are that because its wireless interference can certainly happen from other wireless devices. They run on batteries and usually only have limited usage time in them before you have to charge the batteries again. Some wireless microphones are known to have static noise problems when starting to go out of range of the transmitter. You’re limited to the range you are allowed with a wireless microphone depending on the wireless microphone system you are using.

The more expensive wireless microphone systems tend to have the longer ranges and the cheaper wireless microphones tend to have the lesser ranges.
